King: The two-state solution is a pre-condition to achieve peace in the region
Amman, May 14 (Petra)--His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, that the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and Israel's withdrawal from all occupied Palestinian lands in line terms of reference, mainly the Arab Peace Initiative, was a precondition to achieve peace in the region.
During the talks with the Israeli prime minister , who left Amman after a brief visit to the Kingdom, His Majesty called for ending settlement activities, measures that aim at changing facts on the ground, removing road blocks, lifting the embargo and entering into serious negotiations with the Palestinian National Authority to arrive at the two-state solution as soon as possible.
The King urged Israel to put an end to excavations, and other unilateral steps in Jerusalem that threaten the holy places, aim at changing it identity and empty the city of its Arab Muslim and Christian inhabitants.
The King warned that the region was facing a critical stage that required more efforts to end the conflict through an Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Arab lands in line with the land for peace formula as well as international legitimacy resolutions.
"The Arab Peace Initiative provides a historic opportunity for peace that would restore Arab rights and provide security to Israel, the King added during the meeting, which was also attended by Royal Court Chief Nasser Lawzi and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.
His Majesty warned that missing the current opportunity to end the conflict will threaten security and stability of the whole region.
Israel, he said, will not enjoy security and stability unless the Palestinians gain the right to establish their state and live in peace and security.
The King called on the Israeli government to immediately declare its commitment to the two-state solution, accept the Arab Peace Initiative and take the necessary measure to reach a solution to the conflict.
He said the international community was unanimous over the two-state solution. "Any notion of economic empowerment outside a political solution leading to an independent an viable Palestinian state living in peace besides Israel, was rejected since it would not bring peace an would leave the region hostage to further crises and conflicts" King Abdullah added.
